TorxPlus Security Screws

What is Torx?

Camcar LLC of Acument Global Technologies developed the Torx trademark for a specific type of screw head. The unique design of a Torx screw—a six-point star-shaped pattern on the head—accords various benefits during construction, which include greater ability to maintain a consistent torque while driving and cam-out prevention. Popular in a number of different industries, Torx screws are often found in consumer electronic devices, computers, bike braking systems, and automobiles.

*TorxPlus screws are available in both secure and non-secure varieties. In both cases, TorxPlus screws are identifiable by the unique 5-point star-shaped head design. Standard Torx products are slightly different: learn about Torx security products.

What is TorxPlus?

TorxPlus is a variant of the original Torx trademark, designed to minimize wear and allow for even greater torque.  The unique TorxPlus design provides more contact area between the screwhead and the driver, which in turn allows more torque to be applied, even at high driving speeds. TorxPlus products are currently patented, although they have been licensed to a number of tool manufacturers such as Camcar, which has kept their presence in the marketplace relatively low. Regular Torx drivers are compatible with TorxPlus screws, though full torque cannot be achieved due to the loose fit. TorxPlus drives and screwdrivers will not fit standard Torx hardware.

TorxPlus Security Screws

TorxPlus tamper-proof screws are the more secure version of TorxPlus screws. These TorxPlus security screws are designed with five lobes rather than the standard six. In addition, they have a solid post in the center of the recess. Together, these features provided superior resistance to vandalism, theft, and tampering. Due to licensing and approval processes required to purchase TorxPlus hardware, the installation and removal tools have remained difficult to acquire, thereby maintain the integrity of the entire TorxPlus security system.

Since TorxPlus is a licensed design, screws and other hardware may only be purchased following approval. Buyers must complete and submit paperwork that indicate they are authorized to purchase such hardware.

TorxPlus security screws are used commonly in prisons, other correctional facilities, and for other high-security purposes. The TorxPlus security screws are tamper resistant because they use five lobes instead of six and incorporate a center pin (unlike the standard TorxPlus screws that have a six lobe design).
